People use these terms interchangeably. In the UAE system, they mean different things.
Certified Translation
A translation produced and stamped by a translator licensed by the UAE Ministry of Justice for that specific language pair.
When required: Any document submitted to a UAE court, government authority, or federal entity where an MOJ translator exists for the language pair.
Legal Translation
Certified translation with additional formatting and terminology tailored to the specific receiving authority. Court-ready output - not just accurate language, but correct layout, margin, stamp placement, and legal nomenclature for the jurisdiction.
When required: Court filings, arbitration, litigation bundles, complex corporate submissions.
Sworn Translation
A term used in some jurisdictions (France, Germany, Netherlands) for a translator who has taken an oath before a court. Not an official UAE MOJ category - the UAE equivalent is a certified (MOJ-licensed) translator.
Note: If an embassy asks for “sworn translation,” they usually mean MOJ-certified for their language pair.
Company-Stamped Translation
Arkan’s company certification for language pairs where no MOJ-licensed translator exists in the entire UAE (e.g., Tagalog, Greek, certain regional languages). Issued under Arkan’s company stamp and accepted across most UAE authorities precisely because no MOJ-certified option is available.

Why Courts Reject Translations
